Excellent work!
Which Chess Set is used on the Netflix Series "The Queen's Gambit" ?

Weird that the producers of a miniseries about a chess player didn't expect a hit of the magnitude to need merchandise.

Great photo. I am laughing at the thought of these newly interested people buying the vintage Soviet era "Latvian sets" thinking they will weigh a lot. They are very light unweighted sets but I love the ones I have. Being a Soviet era set collector.

Yeah, the pieces are super light. I actually love it. I think though, one can remove the stickers from the bottom and add similar weights right? Do you have a gallery of your Soviet era collection?

I don't know the answer, but some company selling pieces needs to identify the sets used in the series and start selling them with "as soon on Queen's Gambit!"
Can't remember the site but I noticed most all their sets were "Sold out due to Queen's Gambit'

I understand that the vintage Latvian sets aren’t weighted, but I have to say I love my weighted rset from RetroMaximum.
Re: the current boom. I remember the Waiting for Bobby Fischer boomlet and this feels larger!

I think the pieces on original Latvian sets are probably solid under the felts on the bottom. I don't really have a gallery of my sets but here are a few pictures of my rarest original Soviet era sets from the 1930's -1960's ...

Ah what beautiful sets! How do you maintain their color consistency? In the pictures i posted you can see a 70s/80s soviet era pieces, but the knight looks a bit more 'orange' than the other pieces. Wondering if there are wood treatments to make them all look the same?

Lovely sets all of them.
The last one I think one wouldn't recognize as a Soviet set except for the king's finials. The knights there remind me more of the BCC Staunton sdets.
Hello - The last one is the very rare carbolite (phenol formaldehyde resin) set from the early 1940s. A similar set was used in the 1940 Soviet Championship photos but not in the actual tournament. Though it was used extensively in other high level Soviet tournaments. The material is solid and extremely hard like marble. Here are a few pics ...

Really nice sets wonder what Ronald Reagan would think of your home set up had this been the early 80's

Well the flags were cheap enough and they lend a certain ambience. I have tried to find the original banner style desk flags they used at the Olympiad in 1972 to go with my original Skopje set ...
"Latvian" sets were made different by years.
In the 1950s Knights was squat and they had rich carving.
In the 1960s-70s Knights was tall and still had rich carving.
In the 1980s Knight became squat again , but with a simple carving. Also the Rook hasn't teeth on top.
SOLVED: Found out what set and board it was after tons of research and help from the forums! Thanks everyone!
Does anyone know which chess set this is. This is the board they used in last episode in Soviet Era Russia. I understand it is a Latvian / Soviet era style board, it has an "opp top" for the queen and the king only. The bishops do not have a tapered top like I've seen on online searches. Also the Knight has smooth wide back that tapers. Any help appreciated!
