Thanks for that pic Robb !
Which Dubrovnik Set do you like betterChessBazaar or House of Staunton?

Your welcome Reb... The way I see it is that the Dubrovnik mania is certainly been enhanced being that of Bobby Fischer's favorite playing set which is really well documented. With that said, and again I have no affiliations pro or con with any manufacturer, I for one wanted the set to be as close as possible to that of the Fischer set. The Noj II appeared to me to be the best choice in that regard. To each his own I say, but it doesn't hurt to stay informed now and then.....

Personally , from the pics in this thread I would choose the HOS Dubrovnik over the CB set . I also worry about poor customer service from CB after reading some of the comments from some of their customers .
Odd. I've never seen anyone complain about Chessbazaar, quite the opposite. I HAVE seen a lot of complaints about HouseofStaunton not answering mails, sending back mismatched pieces, demanding the broken pieces being sent back etc.

I never had to return a piece to CB and pay for postage and never had to pay for postage to get a replacement piece sent my way. I have had nothing but positive experiences with CB. Also if you do not like your set they give your money back 100% and charge you NO restocking fee. That is a leg up on many sellers as I read on some sites they charge a restocking fee.

Yes, I had 100% satisfaction with CB's sales and service!! A great company to deal with as I've made many purchases from them.

I purchased one set from CB - when one of the pieces developed a crack within a few days of arriving, all I was required to do was send CB a picture of the affected piece, and they sent me a replacement piece, no questions asked, and I was not required to pay for postage or return the broken piece. Excellent customer service.

I just bought a CB Dubrovnik thanks to this thread. I like the knight, rook, and bishop on the HOS set but I just couldn't get over how small that queen is on the HOS set. A queen should look intimidating. The queen on the HOS set is just a tiny bit taller than the bishop.
Overall, the CB set is more uniform in size. I know the OP said don't factor in price but The fact that the CB set is about $100 cheaper helped a lot in my decision too.

127001,
You may prefer the scaling on the CB set, but it's not an accurate representation of the actual scaling of the original.
I think we all agree that the Noj set is by far the most accurate, and perhaps the only one that could be considered a true reproduction. The CB and HOS sets are designed in the Dubrovnik "style."
Take a look at the photos. First, the Noj set (the most accurate).
Next, the HOS set. Where the scaling of the King, Queen and Bishop are very close to that of the Noj set above. If anything, I think the knight is undersized by about 1/4" (plus the rook and pawn are not as full-bodied as they should be).
And finally, the CB version. The queen is much too tall compared to the Noj. The shape of the Bishop's miter is too bulbous; and I'm not too keen on the design of the unicorn, er, I mean the knight. I like the rook and the pawn though. Also, the Noj and the HOS sets have the more accurate spacing of the collars on the K, Q, and B.
BTW, I got my HOS Dubrovnik set on eBay for $150 plus shipping, which made the price differential about $50 for the 3.6" version. And even less when compared to the 4" version.

Yeah I like the NOJ too but there's no way I'm spending that much right now. Maybe when my kid Finish college or something. Speaking of my kid, we did an unboxing video of CB Dubrovnik together.

Thanks for the great video.! I have the Sheesham just like yours. Rochester folding board here as well. For the money it looks like your set for some games with your daughter. She impressed me when she put the Queen on the correct square.! It looks like she will be beating you before too long.!!

Nice set. For the money you can't go wrong.

That was quite possibly the cutiest thing ever. You melted my GFs heart with that one. Please keep making videos!

Hello everyone! Looks like Chessbazaar introduced their second version of stained crimson Dubrovnik and adjudicating from the photos the set looks spectacular to me. Looks like this set is based on a custom order. Perhaps that custom order originated from one of the forum members here? I indeed prefer ebony wood for the dark pieces. Apart from that CB has improved the design of its knight, I like the new look.

Thx 4 sharing.
Can't wait to order when they (if?) start the production of the sheesham/boxwood 3.6" set.
