As a chess beginner (1200-1400) I'm planning to buy a book on strategy and would like to choose between:

- "Simple chess" by Michael Stean

- "More simple chess" by John Emms

Has any of you read any (or, possibly, both) of these books? What do you think? Which should I choose?

Go to your public library. Ask for all available chess book listings. Library exchanges between libraries means theres LOTS to choose from. Cost you nothing and scores of books to read from .Authors are Grandmasters so great suggestions are offered

Thank you very much! Has anybody read the book by Emms?

I have read 'Simple Chess' by Michael Stean. A short read but money and time well spent. The variations are not boring. The author is a Grand Master as well as a Tax Practitoner. Ideas are clear and very good humour.

Strongly recommended. Smile

Thank you. And what about "Simple chess" by Emms (rather than "More simple chess" by the same author). Has anybody read it?
