why are wooden sets so expensive?

Plastic sets are 10-50 dollars and foam or silicone boards are 5-30 dollars. But wooden sets are 100+ dollars and wooden boards are 50+ dollars (full sized ones anyways). Why is there such a huge difference in price? Is it because they are handcrafted? Is wood more expensive than plastic?

Plastic sets come from a mold an can be cranked out at a very high rate with no imperfections once the molds are ready. Wood is entirely different. Check out this short but great video on why wood chess sets are so expensive https://youtu.be/-Tg9xiJ6D6k

The video below apply also to the cheaper sets in many ways. Plastic sets are just made out of a mold in which you inject the molted plastic. With wood, the whole process is waaaay different.

I read somewhere that the knights in a wooden cost more to make than all the other pieces combined.  In a moulded plastic set I doubt if that would be true.
