They replaced the original board after objections from the players.
Thanks a lot Andy for that information and clearing up our confusion, appreciative.

F.H - I think there is a difference between an authentic and continued production (of a rather modern design by jaques standards -1972) by its designer (Jaques) on the one hand and an accurate reproduction of that same set by another (HOS) on the other hand. Jaques is the authentic set and others compare their copy against it to see how accurate their copy is. In fact that is what we are doing in this very thread with the HOS set.
I think the distinction stands irrespective of the (asserted exact same?) place of manufacture. The accuracy of the HOS set might render it identical to the jaques (but that does not make it authentic, just accurate) or HOS might not want exact accuracy in any case (3.75 king in HOS rather than 3.5 king in Jaques)... But it's probably not worth elaborating on this distinction any further.
D2 - I pulled the trigger on a second hand ebonised jaques Fischer v Spassky set where the price was too good to pass up. It's not ebony but I don't think that would change the design - only the quality of the black peices and possibly their shine. Will post picks soon when I get a chance.
Hey congratulations with that Jaques & looking forward to the photos with envy.

But in this case, we’re not talking about authentic and continued production — we’re talking about sets being made by a different company in a different country, after a gap in production of 30 or more years. Some of the current production is not even made with ebony. And I think that it’s possible that these sets are just copies of an original set, as opposed to being made from original design documents. Jaques’s only involvement now with these sets is to sell them.
I know that having ‘Jaques’ on a set is important to some people (and they think it worth the premium charged for it), but If I wanted a repro of the Spassky—Fischer set, I’d go for the most accurate one out there, irrespective of who the retailer was.
Oh, and D2_To_D8, welcome back Robb. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in thinking that you wouldn’t be able to stay away for long.
Andy-I'll pass that hello along to my grandfather for sure. Anyway, we just got done with the boardering around the marble chess boarder frame and dulling down the shine of the board. Here's a photo and we'll show more as we go along with this continuing project. Sure having fun with it.
Grandfather, yeah, sure, Robb, sure.
So why go to the effort of making the table with the board Fischer didn't like?
Per message request, photo of other board. Table being designed so the boards are interchangeable as drop ins.
Are the squares on the stone smaller than the squares on the wood?
Both are 2 inch.
The inset area will be 19'' and different drop in frames are now the plan to be used to cover exposed framing so only board squares will show. The frames will also be a simple drop in. We did look at doing a table top with both boards, but found it would just be way to large. All are still currently on the drafting board.

What a fantastic project. Thanks for sharing it and please keep us all posted!
This looks like a facinating project. I'm going to enjoy following this!
Thank you M_L & CG
Having fun as a family project drafting it all together. So far, we've run into some various problems here and there. The project is gonna take some time that's for sure, but no matter how it turns out, it's all about family.
Just found out we're going to have to contact an upholstery outfit to create arm bumpers. To expensive for plastic molding. Looking at just going with greyish beige padded vinyl, any ideas appreciated and welcome.
D2 lovely wooden board! Do you have a fisher v spassky set that is 3.5 or 3.75 inches? I am wondering if the 3.75 looks too crowded on that lovely 2 inch board.
D2 I am just wondering for the arm bumbers if it is worth going with a darker look like black leather to hide the dirt. It won't look as authentic as the original Havana or 1972 set but after 10 years the bumbers will look cleaner.
Also, shout out to anyone who knows or can guess what wood type those squares are on D2's board? Or (even better) if one knows where that board can be purchased from these days!
