I have done that several times in the past, but every time the same thing happen: (online)

Since it's for free, students don't feel compeled to do any homework you give them, do other things while you try to teach them in training live games or training daily games, don't really try to answer properly to the training questions you ask them, and throw lazy "guessing" replies instead, promise "not to do it anymore" then do it again (and again and again...), etc.

It's a hell, really. You feel fooled for your efforts and your work, when your only reward is to see you student actually learn something from you. You set teaching plans for just plain nothing. Why? Because it's free, hence it must then have no value.

One can't be respected in their work with free lessons. Or it's maybe then a sloppy work: some teachers teaching for free also come to think of it all like they are not commited to anything for real.

Yea I hear what you're saying. I actually do put a lot of thought into trying to help others, I try to give them what I wish someone would've told me when I was just starting out. It would've sped up my improvement so much. But yea not a lot of people listen or value it. I guess I was just trying to be helpful but it's true not a lot of people respect free work

You sure can try and maybe you'll be luckier than I have been. My best results by far, have been family members and friends, some even won trophies in OTB tournaments, all beat their working mates and friends.

It's funny that you say that. Only time I taught someone in my personal life they went from barely knowing the rules to having solid openings and forming decent middlegame plans (for their level of course) seeing that growth that fast was very rewarding

I would be very interested as I am trying to get to 1500 rated and study openings and think more about opponents' moves rather than just my own.

Well, I brought my ex-wife, back then, from zero to perform at 1500 in a slow OTB swiss tournament in 6 months!

Nice!

Very interested also. I don’t have very high ratings, but I am extremely eager to improve as I absolutely love this game. I have been trying to study the game myself, but I am willing to take any advice and coaching on board in order to improve as much as possible. :-)

If you’re maybe not as serious and passionate about chess and/or this guy doesn’t have room for you you can hit me up lol. 100-650ish rated. No homework.

You're rated 1100 and you want to coach beginners? That's the blind leading the blind. I only feel comfortable teaching beginners because there is enough of a rating gap where I feel like I can provide value. Anyone who is somewhat near my rating has message me I've been very clear about the fact that I may not be the best teacher for them
