Good evening guys,

I've paid out quite a lot of money on coaching, apps and books and just don't know what more I can do. Could I fellow members guide me in the right direction I absolutely adore chess and because of poor health I've plenty of time to practice and play I'm just a little disillusioned as I'm not sure what to do next or who to turn to.!!! I'd be happy for to pay someone who could analyse my games or give me some pointers.

Thank you in advance.

i think if you keep playing, and dont work too hard on yourself anylasing and stuff, and just dont rush games, youll grow elo quickly happy.png

You don't need more apps or books. After each game use chess.com or Lichess game analysis and always review your games whether you won or lost.

Review things like: Why you lost (not just where), repeated mistakes (time trouble, tactics, weak squares, bad plans), what decision you should have made instead, etc.

If you're using a lot of openings, stick to a few until you get the hang on them and them go for more.

Play more rapid or classical
Analyse immediately after (no engine first)
Then check with engine

Hope this helps?

Thanks. I just used a background remover and erased an image, and then left the tiniest bit of the image.

I used to be stuck at 600 ELO for at least 2 years, then suddenly my rating went up and up to peak at 1230 ELO, because I joined a chess club, and there I went every week and got better and better, but gaining ELO is different for everyone 👍

I started off as a 100 elo player in rapid, constantly hanging shi and mates. Now I have progressed to 2200 in rapid. I think the main way to improve is to learn opening theory and traps and spend a lot of ur time on puzzles. Also taking breaks between every few games helps. Gl

Focus on daily tactics (pins, forks, simple mates) and reviewing your own games to spot repeat mistakes. Keep openings simple and work on basic endgames.
If you want clear direction and game analysis, consider 1-on-1 coaching: https://chessgaja.com/one-to-one-classes/

Hi AJ, sorry you’re feeling stuck — it’s a very common stage.

Real improvement at this level usually comes from a structured review of your games and clear guidance on your decision‑making. That’s exactly the kind of work I do: helping players identify their recurring patterns and build a practical plan to move forward.

If you’d like to explore that, feel free to reach out.

Best,
