checkmate

I’m still working through the lessons provided. I have a question about checkmate. Let’s say that black has pawns on g6, g7 and f7. A rook on f8 and the king is on g8. White has a Queen on h4 and a rook on h8. Queen to h8 is checkmate. Can someone explain why queen to h7 isn’t also a checkmate? Thank you!

It is. (I assume you meant to put the white rook on h1 and not h8.)

Yes, that's exactly what I was going for. So both are considered checkmate. Is there a competitive advantage between Qh7# and Qh8#  Thank you!

Thank you @justbefair & @tacticspotter. I've been practicing puzzles and trying to understand the logic behind some moves over others.
