Avatar of Chessdiscipline1

Hi everyone, I’m an active player & a coach with a peak rating of 2260 FIDE Classical, having represented my country in a world youth chess olympiad besides having won national youth chess championships. I’ve been coaching for 3+ years. My students have gained 500-900+ rating points. Now, I’m accepting new students.

My structured, practical, tournament oriented coaching focuses on:

- Pawn structures (arising from different openings) & typical plans (piece exchange, typical pawn break & piece manoeuvres etc.)
- Strategy (General must-know & specialized for openings and it's middlegames)
- Positional play & imbalances (piece activity, weak squares, coordination)
- Thinking processes
- Calculation principles
- Practical Endgames
- Tournament skills (time management, psychology, practical play)
The aim is to build strong understanding so one can approach tournament appropriate opening repertoire based on a mix of ideas and theory rather than solely memorising variations.

My personalised sessions will offer:

- Finding out the weakness (after extensively analysing the student's tournament games)
- Game analysis & feedback
- Training materials and homework exercises (PGNs, books, videos)
- Sharing theoretical insights, building a suiting opening repertoire

Session details:

- online sessions (Google Meet)
- 25 euro's per hour
- Fluent in English and Dutch
- Time zone: CEST (UTC+2)

If anyone is interested or has any questions, feel free to reach out/DM me. Thanks.

I’ve been training with this coach for some time now, and the improvement in my game has been very noticeable. I was a 1600 Fide rated player rated chess player and now I have reached 2100+ FIDE in 2 years thanks to his guidance. If you like sharp tactical lines or positional play he has a deep repertoire of analysis that will guide you through the opening.

What stands out most is how structured and practical the lessons are. Everything we cover feels directly applicable to tournament play.

Also the focus on pawn structures and typical plans has completely changed how I approach the middlegame. I now understand why certain moves make sense. The sessions on positional play and imbalances were especially eye-opening for me, and I’ve started to feel much more confident in evaluating positions.

Another huge benefit has been the personalised approach. My games are carefully analysed, and the feedback is always clear. The homework and training materials are well-chosen and really reinforce what we cover in lessons.

On top of all this, the coach is very approachable, patient, and explains complex ideas in a simple way!

Overall, I would highly recommend this coach to anyone serious about improving their chess.

Thanks Joe! I must say you have been a very talented student. We have started almost from the beginning and I am really happy, that you have developed a lot.

You have an encyclopedia memory combined with a intuition, strong in the openings, tactics, positional play.

You will surely able to get some FIDE titles in the near future!

Purely out of curiosity, I would like to know what you mean by "serious student". For comparison, Dan Heisman once wrote an article titled "An Improvement Plan" on ChessCafe.com in the early 2000s. In the article, he described a number of steps with an approximate end rating and the approximate the amount of time it would take to move through each step, assuming around 10 hours of study (excluding games) per week:

  1. Step 1: end rating 800-900; 1 month.
  2. Step 2: end rating 1100-1200; 6 months.
  3. Step 3: end rating 1400-1500; 18 months.
  4. Step 4: end rating 1600-1700; 24 months.
  5. Step 5: end rating 1700-1800; 36 months.

What is the time commitment you expect from students?

Also, why aren't you verified as a coach on Chess.com?

For me, a serious student is someone who can realistically commit around 4–8+ hours per week to chess outside of lessons. That includes playing games, reviewing them, and doing training.

More specifically, I usually expect:

- 1–2 lessons per week (depending on your schedule and goals)
- Playing tournament or training games regularly (online or OTB)
- Analyzing your own games, at least briefly before we review them together
- Completing homework consistently

I’m not currently a verified coach because I’m not a premium member on the platform yet. I’m quite close to achieving the FM title, and once I do, I’ll go through the verification process for titled players. At that point, I’ll be able to get verified without needing to upgrade my membership.
Let me know if you are interested in working with me!
