The 'only one' part in the above is clearly not true. In life people don't start from the same position and other people's actions have significant consequences for you. Social mobility is poor and getting worse right across the world.
fhunfi has given me tips and insights about the game and where I can improve. He is humble and knowledgeable. Thanks for putting together the 90/30 tournament. I am glad to know there is still a love for long time control although I feel it is dwindling.
I agree. I like the fact that he does not draw attention to himself by telling everyone how good he is but rather helps people and illustrates his competence. This combination is rare.

We had run 6 cycles of Swiss 90m+30s tourney continuously and consistently since Jun 2022 (1 game/ Round for every 2 weeks), with only 2 weeks break for registration between end of a cycle & starting of new next cycle.
The currently running (6th cycle) - entering last Round (6th Round) at moment and will end on Dec 31.
On Jan 01, I will open registration for new cycle of Swiss 90m30 that will start on Jan 16 (Round-1).

I had the pleasure to play against him in a longer time control match (90 + 30). I was lucky to be have been well prepared in the opening. While he did not know the theory that far, he nevertheless played the first 14 moves - a lot of them difficult to find - following the recommendation of a top-ten grandmaster... In a sharp position he finally deviated on move 15 and I could win perhaps one of the best games I ever played with an accuracity of 99,1%. After the game we talked in a very friendly and warm atmosphere about it and he showed great understanding of openings and middlegames too. If I was a somewhat weaker player, I wouldn't hesistate to book a lesson for training here.
I have known fhunfi online for a couple of years and been a student of his for the past couple of months. I had a feeling for a long time that he might be a good fit for me as my coach but only decided recently to approach him. I liked that he never tried to push a sale onto me and waited until I approached him and asked for lessons.
I do a one hour live session with him each week and also do an email based course where typically he gives me a position and asks me to think about the plans and the best moves. When I can't see the correct answers he emails me back with a hint, or if I find the correct answer he will proceed to the next question on the position.
From the daily course I am mostly learning a mix of middlegame tactics and positional understanding. In some cases this also relates to specific openings but usually it is applicable to a wide variety of different openings.
For the live sessions, we have mostly focused on endgames. We have gone over some model games by player such as Capablanca, Alekhine, Kasparov and Short. I have seen full games, the relationship between the opening play and the endgame that is eventually reached, and how those tiny advantages result in a won game.
In many endgame examples the solution requires putting the opponent into zugzwang. For the first month or so we mostly looked at examples of how to convert a position when a pawn up, or when having an outside passed pawn. Recently we did an example of winning an endgame entirely due to a slightly better king position.
On my request, instead of a 4th live session each month we instead play a practice game. Although I ended up losing every game, each game taught me something about the game of chess and also about myself and the way I play it. After each game, he analyses it for me and sends me his analysis.
Overall, I can say that he has been diligent, reliable, and continues to help me a lot.

there is other alternative, called "Daily Course by email" (where the fee is US$ 25 monthly)
- It is an email-based course, on daily bases, where typically I will give you a position (or discussing a whole game move by move / scene by scene) and asks you to think about the plans and the best moves. When you can't see the correct answers, I will email you back with a hint, or if I find the correct answer then I will proceed to the next question on the position.

To finish discussing 1 Test, often it need to take 4 - 5 email reply back and forth / question & answers from 1 scene to next. as we are discussing your answer.
And instead of giving all solution at once, I will always give small hint each time if needed ... with purpose that you will find answer finally by yourself aka using "Socrates method" - I will stimulate your thought process so that you will find the final answer by yourself at the end.
After Test-1 finished, then I will send you next test, and so on.
You will just need 5 - 10 min / max 15 minutes daily for answering / thinking of solution.
Everyday is small steps of improving.

In trying out the 90 + 30 events, I find Chien to be well-organized and on top of things all the time. That's encouraging to me as a participant in these types of events.
Played a training game with Chien. The game was excellent. He prepared before hand and the game review was very instructive. Will be doing it again. His work as a tournament director is also excellent.
