Hello im rated 470 as of right now and I feel like I’m better than most of the players in my elo range. I’ve practiced openings and have been trying to find ways to improve but just feel stuck. If anyone knows things I can do to improve I would be greatly appreciative.

Custom puzzles - choose theme: hanging pieces and set the rating range from 300 to 1000 and drill 10 of those everyday for 2 weeks. Bet you’re rating goes past 500 if it’s blitz 5/5 or rapid 👍🏻

Beyond that - get a coach to review your games and tell you what you need to work on (just 1 session could give you like a 6 week study plan)

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected chess coach and chess author based in California.

Here’s more ideas to help you get better.

  1. Attend my FREE online workshop every Wednesday at 11:30pm Central time. You can ask me questions in real time! I’ll be happy to analyze your chess games, teach you opening traps, endgame techniqes, and more! Here’s more details:

You will also meet other beginners too!

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

-Beginners tend to move too quickly, so in general, think for at least 10-15 seconds before moving.

Your job is to never make any silly blunders!

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces” and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.” Both books are available on Amazon.com. Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

- Check out the 500 puzzles for beginners. These puzzles are unique and cannot be found anywhere else: . These puzzles are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

I hope this helps!

I'm only a 1,000 rated player, but here's my advice:

1. Play against the bots, same rating or a little higher than your rating at first.

2. Develop your pieces - try to control the center.

3. Grab pawns when you can.

4. Study and use forks, pins, discovered check and forced moves.
