This problem was a mate in 2, and Qa8+ doesn't mate in 2.
Yes, but why can't I just mate in 1 with the queen? The king doesn't have anywhere to move

Well, the king doesn't have anywhere to go, but there is the Nb8 that could be played.
Oh yea that makes sense thanks. I guess I am stupid after all lol
I think something isn't right. There is no mate in two, at least in the puzzle I'm seeing. Queen to a8 seems to be the best move. The king escapes and the game drags on but white has an advantage.

whats wrong with Nd6 -> Qb7

This is the solution to the puzzle. 1. Nd6+ Kb8 2. Qb7++
Plus, the "mate in 2" was only a suggested theme, and not necessarily the whole point of the puzzle. I've added the Pin theme to this puzzle. Also, the browser engine for chess.com suggests the above mentioned line as mate in 2. Qa8 only yields +0.10.

I think you did the same error that as i did. I assumed that the puzzle started from the position that was on the board when i open the link and that the king was on e8. Instead, its probably blacks turn to move and black does a 0-0-0. Then it is a mate in 2 puzzle.

I dont know. It says white to move from the position given. It doesn't say black to move. It's certainly not a mate in two from the position given.

The way the chess.com puzzle works is that it starts with your opponent making a move. I tried it in this puzzle (https://www.chess.com/puzzles/problem/774708) where the black rook starts on e5 and if you try to solve it, black will go Rxd5 and it is after that position you have to solve the puzzle. I cannot open the spesific puzzle in the opening post, but 0-0-0 makes sense based on the other answers.

Why can't I just move the queen to A8? Am I stupid or is this puzzle wrong?
