The players will start to get tougher. You should move to something more solid like Queen's Gambit, French Defense, etc. It is fine to play a trappy line but you need to have a solid foundation if you want to really improve. When I was in the 800, I just played the Jerome until I realized that it was making me lose 100 points. I instead moved to other solid openings like Italian Game and French Defense. At your level, if you just play simple developing chess, you will get better until you need to put more time into your studying.
- When you study, you also need to play too as too much of one of these and not enough of the other is just terrible. I will link here some chess books for you to checkout and when reading these books go to Lichess.org/study and create a study updating it with whatever you read in the books. You want to go over the mainline and any interesting variation or mistakes so that you can go back to that study and see it all without having to reread the book. My French Defense Study is my most updated one and can serve you as an example along with my second most updated Queen's Gambit which has a different writing style than the French Defense author.
- You should also do more puzzles to sharpen those pattern-recognition skills so you can capitalize on certain situations instead of missing out or losing to them. I hope this helps!
