old lessons
Used to play the lessons about a year ago, but haven't done so recently. Did not realize any changes had been made.
not only that but also they change the plans of subscription, I have a platinum and I was able to do 25 lessons per day, now its 5 per week, I didnt know that after you buy a plan they could just change things like that only because they want more money. BTW previously you could do 25*7= 175 lesson per week, since now is only 5 per week with the platinum subscription, that means a reduction of the 3500% !!!!!! crazy right? what is next chess.com?
The old lessons are back now ( all of them ) intermingled with the new ones
Quick question? When you say the old lessons are back, have they been "translated" to the new video format or are they in the original text?
Dear Chessfriend,
My name is Gabor Balazs. I am a Hungarian FM, fighting for the IM title. My top ELO is 2435. I have been playing chess for 21 years. I won the Hungarian Rapid Championship twice (U16 and U18).
I love teaching chess and it is very important for me that both of us enjoy the lessons beside the hard work. I have pupils almost all the levels from beginners to advanced players (1100-2200 ELO).
Why should you choose me?
- I have a widespread opening repertoire (a lot of openings are analysed by strong Grand Masters).
- I have a lot of chess books in PDF and Chessbase format, so I can teach you the main middlegame plans, the art of calculations, famous chess games and the endgame theory.
- I have elaborated, personalized training plans, which help you to improve your skills effectively.
- I help you analyse your games deeply, so you can realise your mistakes and learn from them.
- I am really flexible and hard-working person, the quality of my work is really important for me.
Please, contact me (balazsgabor1991@gmail.com), if you are interested in working with me, I am looking forward to your message. ![]()

I had sent an email to chess.com and they told me that " The old lessons are intermingled with the new ones now and most likely the "old" lessons will only be text and not video. "

This is crazy ! Though I have a diamond membership ( nothing has changed for diamond members ) these new plans of subscription are bad for customers !
In my case , I wanted to pay a gold membership for some kids showing some interest toward chess, but when I realized that the number of lessons have been reduced to the extrem, I have changed my mind. I can't pay for 3 lessons per week ( at the beginning it was 7 lessons for free per week and 35 for a gold member ) Chess.com should reconsider the new plans of subscriptions !!
I think the idea behind these new subscription plans is to force as much people as possible to pay for the diamond membership.

I don't think there are any lessons in the old format. I think that is a shame. I see no reason to get rid of the old lessons for those who enjoy them.

It is not exactly the same format, but it is very close and text based. The lessons are the same although it's not quite as easy to access them.
As for why they couldn't be kept as is? Someone had advanced the theory that some of the javascript libraries (or some other programming "stuff") were no longer supported. Also some of the lessons didn't stand up to engine analysis. Anyway, check them out again, notmtwain. You might be pleasantly surprised.
They're scattered all around the Lessons site. You can't find just the old lessons anymore. Tactics is really about all I've checked but I guarantee that GM Wolff's courses on tactical motifs are there. OK I actually haven't counted to see if all them have been brought over, but I've reviewed the course on forks a few times now and it's much the same as it used to be. Just start clicking around the Lessons to try and find your favorites.
OK I just checked again, and they are all in the Mastery section. Maybe you have to slog through all the earlier new video lessons to gain access to the Advanced Chess Concepts section?
The old lessons are intermingled with the new ones.
One the website you are likely going to find the lessons easily.
I can't currently find the old lessons on android app ( phone ) I hope the app shall be updated soon. Use the website to find the old lessons ( in mastery section )
