Chess Mentor Ratings Question

I'm curious. Is the Chess Mentor Rating meant to approximate the players strength, e.g., Chess Federation rating or Chess.com player rating or is it just a way of keeping score in Chess Mentor?

Another way of presenting the question is if one is rated 1400 consistently in Chess Mentor, should they be able to compete with a 1400 rated player in OTB play?

thanks.

No...a chess mentor rating has nothing to do with an OTB rating.

It doesn't even have much to do with your Chess Mentor performance inasmuch as you can be penalized for doing lessons that are too easy for you.

You also can be penalized for making the best move if the author of the lesson had a different idea.

After finding the simple tactic in this exercise, I tried the best move as my second move. It was wrong. I tried a couple other choices, including the second best move. Only the third best (according to Stockfish) was acceptable. My rating dropped significantly (eight times what I would have gotten for 100% correct).
