Hi,

I am Grandmaster Newengland7, I have a Russian accent though I am actually Arizonan, and I will improve your chess

TomberMaximus

I was for a long time a really awkward chess player, I had in some point an interest in the game but had no real plan how to learn, train and improve my chess.

I played for like 2 years with around 1000 rating in a chess club and stopped playing since I rated other acitivities higher. However, I came back to chess nowadays by some injuries that give me time and possibility to play a lot of chess.

But here I am and ask me one question: How to begin improving? Is it a book? Some magical approving course like "Chessmentor" or something specific like "Train tactics, whatever you can grab with the best explanations. And get a solid opening onto the board!"?

I would really appreciate an answer ;) Sorry for my bad english, I always just invested time and effort in things that made a point to me :D

Dear GM,

I am playing the Yugoslav attack against the dragon, but I often get crushed. In particular I find it hard to play against the Soltis variation with 12...h5. Is there an alternative line I could play with White that is a bit less messy?

Thanks for your time. :-)

You may notice that the leading engines don't play the dragon--there's a good reason for this.

I want to ask how I can be as good as you.

Have fun and be goofy. Don't take yourself seriously and you will be a grandmaster by tomorrow.

Listen to music while you play chess.

Thank you for your helpful advice. Next time after playing 5. Nc3 I will immediately ask my opponent not to play 5... g6 because the engines say it is bad...

GM Secret #1:

Playing Pai Gow with GM Enrico Sevillano until 7am with a round starting at 9am still guarantees a win.

Have fun. That's what I do. If necessary, confer the GM title on yourself. That's what I did.

How do you counter d4 properly?

Generally, you want to play something like d6 or e6 followed by an eventual f5 transposing to the Dutch defense.
