Yes someone found it in their drawer. Lewis itself is pretty barren, looks like the surface of the moon. It does not surprise me that a chess set was found there though, the entire West coast of Scotland from the Shetlands to Orkney down to Dublin in Ireland was a Viking super highway way back in the day. Govan stones are ancient Viking monuments dated to about 11th century and commissioned by powerful rulers at the time, like all museums in Glasgow you can see it for free.
