imma give a serious answer

they are not real women, obviously. nobody's trying to ¨alienate¨ the wannabe community.

thats like me being on the red team in capture the flag, then suddenly identifying myself as the blue team so i can join them. not how it works lmao

‘Capture the flag’ is not the same as a person’s gender identity.

same idea

¨i dont want to be this so im going to try to be that because my feelings matter more¨

No, not the same idea. The only advantage that the blue team would have is that they have more players in their team, so are you saying that trans women shouldn’t be allowed to because there will be more women? Use real arguments : )

No, because trans women are still biologically male. You can't just let Larry Bird or Kobe into the WNBA, because that would make it completely unfair for biological women and make a mockery of fairness.

So, you’re saying men are better than women at chess??

No, men are not better than women at chess, it seems like that because men play more chess, because back in the day women weren’t allowed to play chess. Still, even today, woman are discouraged from playing it due to misogynous and prejudiced views.

so then why do men play better

Avatar of AngryPuffer

she gave up

Avatar of lonniespiel

There could be a whole load of reasons why men play better than women at the moment. I'd guess that one is the abuse, bullying and intimidation that women receive that make many give the game up. Who knows, if the chess environment was more inclusive and accommodating, we might see more women continuing in the game and some of them might become top players....

This is my exact point. Literally all of the other women and I in my chess clubs were told that it wasn’t for girls and that we would be fat and unwanted if we didn’t do a real girl sport whilst all the men were called intelligent and smart for doing it. Many other women in chess I talked to had similar experiences and lots quit because of it.

No one should be stigmatised for doing what they want or being who they want, as long as it doesn't adversely affect others.

We need more men to stand up to the injustices in the chess world

Avatar of kizzy_is_back

Yeah, it’s really sad to see women who could’ve been great at chess and start a great career get shut down because it’s ‘not for girls’. There could’ve been a multitude of potential women grandmasters that got bullied into giving up when they first started.

Same this is horrendous bigotry on the part of FIDE.

heres a potential logic, just putting it out there

one of the main reasons women are discouraged from playing chess (and why womens categories even exist) is because of s*xual harrassment

so maybe trans women might not have gone through that, so fide made this decision

and theres also the issue of people abusing this... maybe

not saying i agree with this logic, just saying it exists

Avatar of lonniespiel

So the German Chess Federation just laid out their policy after FIDE's ruling.

Trans women have typically experienced quite a lot of harassment in life related to their gender, and are sexually assaulted more often than cis women.
And people abusing it? I've always wondered about the logic. "Hey, I can wear a dress and a wig, and win a women's competition where I wouldn't have won as a man! Yay me!" Why would anyone be proud of winning a competition where they didn't truly feel like they were a candidate? Just because some loophole allows me to compete in a local under-10 tennis competition doesn't mean I want to beat a bunch of kids and be recognized as the best 10yo tennis player in my town.
Nevermind the fact that it's generally the men that are trying to keep trans women out of women's sports - most women don't care or welcome the trans women to their ranks. How about FIDE poll the top hundred (or better yet all) female players and get their feedback?
