Why is this not a common opening?

Thanks!  I have seen a few people use this in some blitz games and couldn't find any useful data bases to analyse.

It's because it doesn't follow the main opening principle of not bringing the queen out too early.

Israel Zilber (former Moscow champion) played it all the time (also Qa4+ in the QGA).  I looked it up in MCO after he played it and found nothing wrong with it.  The queen has a good square.

I often use this theme myself.  The fork between the king and the attacked piece can win material anytime before castling and is a very common theme in opening traps.

More experienced players are able to play it because they have a better understanding.

This would never happen as no one plays dxc5

2...Qa5 is a nonsense move. After 2...e6 black equalizes rather easily.

The only thing I see that black got his queen out a little too early, and can be attacked while developing (e4 Be3 not that it's best, but an example). The queen is also blocking the line of the BlackSquared bishop, and is more than likely forced to move again. Whites development is more than likely going to be more easy, since blacks first move was c5, which didn't open up any line for any piece development, only the queen. Black however did manage to get 2 central pawns.

2. d5 leaves Black cramped; 2. dxc5 and Black can play: 2... Na6.
