Errrr hardly anyone is familiar with this trap - otherwise a superior player to you wouldn't have fell for it. I've never seen it before. Thanks for the education but a big thumbs down for being so smug...

For someone in the 1800s to fall for that is indeed pretty surprising. Only one person so far has fallen for that trick against me so far (slightly different variation)...

Nowadays, I just play 3.d4, so I guess I won't have any checkmate in 8 move wins.
