1.e4 f5 : me and my oversized ego vs all of you

Does anyone know how to get the FEN of the position. It is not added anymore to the option PGN/FEN. I need it to quickly get to the position. Now must I manually enter the moves each time.

Sjeng recommends Qf7 and is for one time better than Houdini. :-)

There's an arrow pointing to the right in the square.

GNU suggests Qf7 - this is where computers loose me - I don't see why. Maybe to free the Knight or a future Bishop move giving discovered attack on the Queen?

Qf7 with intention to [removed].

You need to add a preamble to this comment or otherwise make it spoiler-proof; making statements right out of the gate like this makes it impossible for Irontiger to avoid reading them.

Done! Wink

Since the engines disagree, it would be worth playing through the lines. Maybe Houdini (for example) will realise it was mistaken because of a move given in Komodo's line (or vice versa). Or maybe it will just be complicated.

But since Irontiger is not using an engine, we should pick the line that is likely to be the most difficult for white to find accurate moves in, if they are any different in this respect.

I played just a couple of moves ahead showing the engines the top moves, but only Komodo changed its evaluation for a few plies, Houdini remained unfazed when I suggested Komodo's top choice.

Anyway, I hope Social Panda comes back soon so he can help with the evaluations!

Is there more here, or shall we just keep expecting a "me makum fire" level of understanding about what would actually indicate engine use?

On the bottom left of the game diagram there is a magnifying glass;  click the magnifying glass and it will open up a new tab.  From there, scroll down on the move list and click on the last move.  Then go to the "Position Setup" tab and click "Copy FEN to Clipboard".  This should give you the FEN of the current position.

Like you said, for some reason the PGN/FEN button only gives you the PGN.

My challenge still stands :

engines also all agree with Irontiger's moves.

Considering they don't always agree with each other, that does not sound credible.

Please feel free to post any engine's analysis to back up your claim, though. Make sure to have screenshots, or people might be lured into the irrational thinking that you are just a troll.

One more post without any substance will get you banned out of the thread. This include posts complaining about how I abuse my power. This is the last warning for 0random - I know you're not flamewarring, you're just spamming.

Spark 1.0 agrees with Qf7

Aetheldred

I'll run Houdini again, let's give it one more chance to reconsider with more plies! Cool

Update: At 32 plies, Houdini still likes h6

Update 2: Komodo at 32 plies still likes Qf7 .

Chessmaster plays Qf7

Qf7 allows the light-square bishop to move without forcing a queen trade. Furthermore, it allows the possible discovered attack with the rook. It also breaks the pin on the knight. The computer sees the trade Bxf6 to be better for black, so it isn't afraid of the tempo loss of moving the queen twice in a row.

h6 is a natural move. The dark-square bishop must be challenged sooner or later. If Bxf6, then Qxf6, which is a good trade for black, who now has better control over the black squares. Otherwise, white must move the bishop to a weaker square. h6 also takes control of the important g5 square.

Irontiger

Chose your move, gentlemen. I will not pick for you, now that computers start disagreeing...

Aetheldred

I prefer Qf7.

xakean-ski

All the engines except for Houdini and Critter chose Qf7, so I think that should be our move.

LoekBergman

I agree.

The title claims that he has an oversized ego, therefore Irontiger must defend his ego by not losing this game.

I'll say it again with gusto ;)...whatever Stockfish and/or Komodo pick (at 30+ plies) needs to be the default move over Houdini, because Houdini is a weaker engine.  Houdini has not been on top since sometime early last year?  All the other engines are pretty much irrelevant.

Houdini would make a nice tiebreaker if Stockfish and Komodo disagree, though.

Where do you find that Komodo is stronger than Houdini?  As far as I know, the only rating list with Komodo ahead of Houdini is CEGT 40/120.

Testing has shown that the latest Stockfish development versions are stronger than Houdini, but Houdini beats Komodo pretty consistently.

I'm just going off the TCEC webpage.
