Actually, if I didn't know any theory, I would almost surely play 5.Nxf7, as the twelve-year old Bobby Fischer did!

The Traxler is devastating if you don't know the lines at all. it can be very bad for White if he is unprepared.

I will have to run thru 10...Bg4 and see what I come up with, but as for jonathanbeatty's comment, this is the biggest piece of BS ever!

If you base your decision of openings on what lines are most dangerous to those that don't know it, you're an idiot!  What happens when they do know it?  Huh?

The Najdorf Sicilian is devastating to White if White has no clue what he's doing.  That said, as much as I hate the Najdorf, Black actually has a sound position in the Najdorf if White DOES know what he's doing...something that can't be said about the Traxler!

When deciding what openings to play, make your decision based on assumption that your opponent will play the best moves!  Do you still like your position?  If not, get rid of it!  Of course, if he doesn't play the best moves, your position will always be better than this "Worse Case Scenario" type of position.

On that basis, you'll never see the Traxler on my board.  If I play the Two Knights, I'm playing 4...d5! against 4.Ng5.

Theoratically, it is bad.
