As a reward for reading this post here's a 2 minute 1 second increment bullet game I played. This is the beautiful but uncommon queenside castle Alapin; henceforth and forever known as the Staples13 variation of the Alapin.

Nice, but one problem: It’s a bullet game, so it’s not bulletproof from refutation.

The Staples13 variation of the Alapin is probably not winning. Black can draw with best play, as castling queenside with an open c file staring directly at your king is objectively probably not the smartest thing to do.

The Staples13 variation is however the most exciting opening of all time especially when black castles kingside

There are only a couple spots left in the Sicilian Alapin Open, so it will be starting in a couple hours. Thanks to everyone who joined. It should be a lot of fun. I encourage you to post your games with analysis here so we can all continue to expand our knowledge of the Alapin. 

For those of you you who didn’t sign up for the tournament I’m very disappointed in you. I’ve backed up my arguments with about 25 of my games + analysis and here you all were with an opportunity to try and equalize against my Alapin, and instead you opted not to play. Very disappointing

You’re right, the Alapin is a true bust and I cannot argue.

Will not attempt to refute an opening as great as that.

However, I like attacking much more than positional play so I will stick with the Grand Prix.

If you like attacking play I recommend the Staples13 variation of the Alapin. This is where white castles queenside in the Alapin leading to the most aggressive, tactical, and attacking-oriented positions in all of chess

Both openings give white huge chances to win. 2. Nf3 gives Black more chances than I like.
