A Bust to the Sicilian Defense

Well... in this case then, do you still claim that the Alapin is a forced win for white? Do you think you've made any errors that allowed Stockfish to secure a draw against the Alapin?

staples13

Yeah but a draw against Stockfish would be a good rrsult

HolographWars

It’s STOCKFISH

not carlsen

Choowd3

well if its such a bust how come according to chess.coms opening win percentages black wins .2 percent more and 1/3 of games are a draw. yea this isn't a bust buddy just another anti Sicilian if it was a bust no master would play the Sicilian anymore its an obscure move and its unlikely anyone would seriously prepare against it I believe you just caught players off guard

The point is, the result of this game contradicts your claim that Sicilian Alapin is a forced win for white.

Forced win vs Humans, and that’s all that matters.

But if you CANNOT win in X situation, a win is NO LONGER FORCED

Doesn’t matter to me.

HolographWars

How about you do Stockfish vs Stockfish in Alapin.

littlesoldier123

I think the moves by staples so far is the best move suggested by Stockfish

Carbon6

Were you playing against Stockfish on a strong setting? I don't like its 8. ... Qc5 at all, I think maybe Qc7 instead. I've been away for a day and a half and I can't help noticing you haven't moved in our game. Not that I'm trying to put you under pressure to move .... it is a three day game after all and I also like to make full use of my time. I know we can't analyse a game in progress but I can mention that in my opinion, 4. ...e6, as played, is best for black.

Sorry, I had advanced to the second round of some 24 hour per move tournament so all those games just started are listed before yours, and so I kind of forgot about this one. I’ll pay more attention.

e6 is the right idea I think. It annoys me slightly when people develop their queenside first against the Alapin, which just doesn’t seem like the right idea

Play the Alapin against someone who actually knows the lines and see what happens. Also, check out the win rate at higher levels.

The Sicilian is bad. My friend always plays it and then I play Alapin and gain control of the center.

The O.P. and I are playing an important test game, upon the result of which the future of the Sicilian will depend!

Yes great post. Our game will be posted on this thread and analyzed for many years and generations to come

Yes great post. Not only does the Alapin give white complete control of the center but also does so with greater development

Clearly Golubev doesn’t know what he’s talking about. No one calls it the Alapin system. He’s lost all credibility in my eyes
