A true Queen's Gambit

Many commonly played variations of the queen's gambit are not truly gambits, because black has no chance to keep his material advantage. Example:

So this is not really the Queens gambit, just an attack on d5.

However, another line of the Queens Gambit actually IS a gambit! And, more aggressively seeks to control the centre.

Black must react to the threat on c4, or otherwise not only be equal in material, but behind in development! This allows white to build a stronger center.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Waffles are so 2010.

The e4 line isn't a true gambit either. White can still in back the pawn in the majority of lines, and not needing silly tricks like the one you gave either.

You are all wrong. Its a weasel. But thanx for playing!

Did you mean Be6 here? I don't see where Be7 is playable or how it would help, but this makes a bit of sense.
There's no way to hold on to the pawn given that white always has the Qa4+ resource. Granted, this version isn't so good for white in terms of development.

Ah, my bad, I suppose there is b5 there. How about 4.Qa4+ then?

I knew some fish would post a ridiculous idea like shadowfax's. I was hoping that nobody +1500 would bother though.

Personally i used to like playing the queens gambit, but after playing it for 7 years it gets too boring. If anyone wants to know a killer opening against the queens gambit look up the budapest gambit

I poked around the 3. ...Be6 line for a bit quite some time ago and IIRC I found no direct way for White to win back the pawn by force in that line (In your example of 4.Qa4+ then Black has 4. ...Qe7 followed by recapturing with the knight if White exchanges queens), so it seems to be a "true" gambit in that sense.

But the whole 3. ...Be6 line is pretty bad for Black in general, i.e. White has more than enough compensation for the pawn since Black's put his bishop on a lousy square, and the pawn can usually be regained eventually (although as mentioned there seems to be no direct, immediate way of doing so). So it's not really a line of much concern. (I believe the usual continuation is 4.Nc3 with the threat of pushing the centre pawns even further.)
