Alapin-Diemer is the STRONGEST anti-French gambit

I've been studying game results 1600-2000 for EVERY gambit in the French, as I just started playing again, and ADG has the BEST performance of any gambit. The wing gambit is close, BUT LOOK AT THESE STATS!

      3.Be3 Alapin-Diemer Gambit  53:44@28k

         3…c6 56:41@1,076

         3…c5 51:45@1.831

         3…Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5.f4 58:38@5,182 +0.7

            5.

         3…dxe4 4.Nd2 54:42@5.3k

            4…f5 5.f3 53:42@1,973

Clearly you are clueless as you left out Black's best defense!

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Be3? dxe4! 4.Nd2 Nf6! 5.f3 Nd5! -/+

3.Be3? Is utter cr@p!

indeed. Undoubtedly, I will say this gambit is not the "Strongest"~because, heh I did play this (and I advocate learning this line for "those rare particular moments" to my chess friends) and not recommend it as primary white play vs the French~ but however; I rush to say, "3. e3? It's NOT crappy, Bro!" 😎 e.g. after 5. ... Nd5, let's actually continue PLAYIN' say- 6. Qe2 c5 7. dxc5 Qa5 8. Qxe4 Bxc5 9. c3 things aren't l👀king exactly how TF exclam'd it is, no?

To the OP. I'm backing you up only because I like your enthusiasm~but in the future pls do your due diligence and analyze All n Everything about any particular line you fancy. Practice, study and actually play practical games with it yourself (and save it of course) gain experience AND THEN come here and Proclaim it! And of course, in the meantime... Just keep PLAYIN' cuz PLAYIN'S always the thing with me! Best wishes 🤙🏼

(of course) edit post #3: "3. Be3?"

(must be drunk) edit on post #3: 6. Qe2 c5 7. dxc5 Nxe3 8. Qxe4 Qa5 9. Qxe4 Bxc5 10. c3 👍🏼

I think it is a good gambit: Black does not get a huge advantage, does he?    tongue.png

Hey pfren. indeed. (can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not) Black doesn't get an advantage, at the least it's equal at this point of my hypothetical line of play (after 10. c3). Anyways, I didn't quite dig calling this gambit "utter crap" after only uttering the 5. ... Nd5 line and not following it up. indeed2 any line can look like crap at certain moments but they still have to keep playing.

6...Nc6 is probably more convincing than 6...c5.
Black should win this with his extra pawn for no compensation.

Millner-Barry is still the most promising gambit against the French

You are wrong, the best gambit that I play is the Reti gambit , 1.e4 e6 2.b3!? d5 3. Bb2

I get 76% points with it, 2400 online level

I tried long time ago the diemer but is garbage

Things aren't looking that way because you are just as clueless.  Now I play 6...Nc6 rather than your 6...c5 garbage.

You can make anything look good for White by playing inferior moves for Black.  Does not take a genius to figure that out!

The French is the one opening where trying to outsmart me is not a very bright idea unless you are a GM.  I have played it for over 25 years, LITERALLY!

Your personal stats do not make a line gospel.

The Reti Gambit, while not nearly as bad as 3.Be3, is not very good if Black knows what he is doing.

If your own personal stats dictated soundness, the Alekhine-Chatard attack would be refuted by 6...c5 with my 4 wins and missed win over the board.  I think we all know it would be stupid to say Black scores 90% in the Alekhine-Chatard with 6...c5.

Therefore, personal stats mean nothing about soundness of an opening.

This isn't the Milner Barry, but rather a modern approach which also sacrifises the d4 pawn.

The "regular" Milner-Barry goes 7.cxd4 Nxd4 8.Nxd4 Qxd4 9.Nc3, when 9...a6 leaves white with not enough compensation, while the "modern" Milner-Barry is 7.cxd4 Nxd4 8.Nbd2, which is a better try, but still probably not enough.

This is a modern twist. He did recapture 15 cxd4.
Here are classical Milner-Barry:
