Any good weapons against the french?

I don't have any game score from this line (too long ago), but Tartakower used to play it in Master tournaments.

Sound? Engines don't like it... but engines seem to be under the impression that White is trying to mate at f7, like a beginner.

In fact, White's plan is strategic, not tactical. With his advanced center Pawns, White cuts the board into two pieces, one of which contains virtually all the Black army (and nothing else!), and the other one contains Black's King and the entire White army.

why would they play g6?

most people in that position play Bg4 or e6

why the hell not? two knights is a fully sound way to play the french. the abundance of traps is a plus not a minus.
do you want to endure a noob playing 17 move of french theory on you and playing artificially stonger than he is or would you rather dispatch them quickly oncce their understanding is proving to be lacking?
