What do you guys think of this opening? I'm not sure if its an official opening but I've had pretty good results with it. Let me know what you think or if you see any drawbacks or things to look out for

Although not in that move order, the position shown appears in the game explorer 3 times. The results are 2/3 wins for white, and 1/3 draw. But, three games is not enough to make such an assumption!

The position is usually reached by playing Qa4+ and Qxc4 before Nc3. The position below has been reached 26 times:

This is still not enough to come to any valid conclusion. Using one of the engines on my computer (which is rather weak) we see that black has a slight advantage in the position I have posted. The position you have posted seems to be the same. As white starts with a slight advantage, this line is obviously weaker than the mainlines. However, it is certainly not unplayable.

Neat, it's a flavor of the Queen's gambit accepted and it's off the beaten path but it is certainly playable. Typically black plays c6 at some earlier point taking away that queen check. I don't like black's very natural looking 4...Bd7 I think I have a novelty (well, a novelty to the Game Explorer at least) 4...Qd7!? which may be better for black. My hunch/hope is it gives Black good chances at equalizing, but I haven't put it in a chess engine yet to test it.

lol.... what in the world

I have never seen that before. It looks fine to me and I do not usually play gambits.

this opening doesnt seem to be bad, but not good either. it gives black easy equality after 5...e6

i'd also just like to point out that 3.Nf3 is better than 3.Nc3, and 4...Nc6 is better than 4...Bd7.

i checked this out in a book of openings and it said that after1. d4, d52. c4, dxc43. Nc3, Nf64. Qa4+black is supposed to play 4... c6any1 seen that or have an idea why black would do that

Alphastar18

It more or less forces white to play 5. Qxc4 because black is threatening both Qxd4 and b5 keeping the gambit pawn.
I suppose black could also try 4. ..Nc6!? but I think it's a bit premature for developing this knight - it restricts black's options, eg he blocked the c-pawn.
Interposing a piece on d7 also restricts his piece development and coordination.

So I suppose ..c6 is the most flexible move.

GlennB

the point of 4...c6 is that after 5.Qc4 Black equalizes with 5...Be6, after either 6.Qd3 Na6=, 6.Qa4 b5 (6...Nbd7 equalizes also) 7.Qd1 b4 8.Na4 Nbd7 9.Nf3 Bd5=, or 6.Qb4 b5= (or 6...Qb6=)

4...Nc6 equalizes also, though

jackonya

i do not think it is a good opening
