Talking to anyone about something they aren't interested in is boring.

Example #1: talking about cycling on a chess site.

Example #2: talking about chess on a cycling site.

Example #3: Talking about formulating paint to anyone outside and most of the people inside the paint the paint industry.

I can't find anyone inside the "paint the paint industry" to verify the truth of your remark. Laughing

We are very reluctant to reveal ourselves. We are an opressed group that are made fun of for not selecting the right color of paint the first time. And for the pointlessness of painting the first color with the second color instead of simply using the second color to paint our target. Discussions about formulating paint sicken us by reminding us of our failures so we don't like to talk about it as mentioned before.

I'm watching the Cubs play St. Louis right now  - it's 4-4 in the seventh, and I'm enjoying a deep dish Dominoes pizza along with a strawberry daiquiri.  As some of you are aware, I am a large man; 5'9, 410 lbs.  Being a tad tipsy right now, I would say it's not chess players who are boring, it's people under 40.  They're intellectual urchins. They have nothing to say because they have never lived life.  I've been married two and a half times and have two kids who hate my guts and I can't stand them either.  Although I am currently worth over seven figures, I filed bankruptcy once and had a bypass four years ago.  I go to therapy once a week and drink a lot too.  So, in answer to your question, I think only well established people have gifted personalities and since most chess players are under 40, they are boring.

Carefully acquitted,

Haywood

"Well Read" Baby, you remind me of  Narcissus  a handsome Greek youth in Greek Mythology. He had never seen his reflection. The nymph Echo ( that would be me of course)  was  punished by the mean goddess Hera for gossiping, (that would be Trysts..hes so suspicious you know! ).

Well anyway..she was  cursed  forever " to always have the last word". One day Echo saw handsome Narcissus walking through the forest. She just wanted to express her love for him. She called out to him...Narcissus heard her, but could not see her.  So he asked, "Who's there?", In frustration all Echo could reply,  was "here" ".it was the last word".

When Echo finally had the courage to reveal herself, she was shocked that Narcissus rejected her and she fled into the mountains. Where she played chess on Chess.com to ease the pain !

One day, when Narcissus became thirsty and stopped by a pond to take a drink, he saw his reflection in the water for the first time. Not knowing any better, he fell in love and started talking to it. Not yet understanding reflections, Narcissus thought his reflection was speaking to him and became more engaged with himself, his problems and his world.

Alas... he was unable to consummate his love. Narcissus pined away at the edge of the pool and changed into the flower that bears his name, the narcissus. AWWWWW...a beautiful flower!

What does this have to do with personality and Chess..Not much!  but if you read this whole thing. If you are reading this sentence. You have been entertained by me ! .So my youth wasnt that boring after all ....Babe ! :)

You look chilly, MsJean. Please wear my cape while I start a fire in the drawing room. A snifter of Cognac, perhaps?
