In this post, we will see 13 differents variations of this defence. It will be the classical variation, the 4.Nc3-Bb7 5.Bg5-h6 6.Bh4-Bb4 variation, the 4.g3 variation, anti-Indian system, the Petrosian system, the 4.e3 variation, the Botvinnik variation, the Burger variation, the Riumin variation, the Euwe variation, the Miles variation, the Rubinstein variation, and FINALLY the Averbakh variation.

we can notice that the last move 4.a3 is a pure prophylaxis in the true spirit of great Tigran Petrosian. This little pawn prevents Black's move Bb4 that pins Nc3. Since the Nc3 controls the all important central square e4, we can say that the 4.a3 move is a fight for the center!..
