I know you can challenge someone with some opening premoves made.  People challenge me that way.  I have looked around the site and somehow I cant find the link which explains how to do it.

Any pointers would be kindly appreciated.

Best regards,

Go to the dropdown menu that says "with the usual game options" and change it to "with game options I select"

Then go to the dropdown menu that says "Standard Starting Position ...or choose:" and pick your opening there.

Thanks so much.  I would never ever have checked there.

Anybody know how to see the opening positions for a given opening before selecting as a game?  Before they changed this page, one could point at an opening and the little board on the side would show the position(s).

-Knight-,  Thank you for the amazing fast answer from earlier.

Had to go out but have now been messing about with the opening thingie.  There is probably something obvious I am missing........and just cause this is driving me insane does not mean anyone else has to bother.
And I do not want this to be a pain for anyone so thanks if you can help.

On 'start new game' page, I understand about selecting "Standard Starting Position ...or choose:"  and the long wonderful list of openings.  Used to be that just pointing at one on the list would show the positions of the pieces on the little board on that same page as I said before. This was very conveniant.  If I liked one, just click and the game would be on its way.  No more. Even if I select the game (by clicking on it), still it does not show on the wee board.   Is there anyway to activate this so the board shows the pieces?  I have looked at 'settings' etc but no help.

Sir Knight, I went to game explorer as you suggested, selected 'master games' in the Database but the list of openings is limited to a few.  Saw no way to make the list longer.  So I clicked one of the openings and the board showed the piece(s) that moved first.  I saw no way to initiate that game to an opponent.   Just above that board is 'Book Openings Home'.  So I went there.

Now, 'Book Openings Home' has the long list of openings and they can be sorted in various ways, Eco, alphabetical, etc.  And each opening can be viewed, which opens another page for that opening on a board.  Still no way to initiate directly to a game with an opponent of my choosing.
At the top of the 'Book Openings' page they tell you:
"Below is a list of known standard chess book openings. If you would like to use a game board to find an opening, use the Game Explorer! "
The exclamation point is theirs.  The tears of frustration are mine from  going in circles.

The best I can do at this point is find an opening, copy the name and number, go to start new game, paste it in game name, so the opponent knows which opening, and then find it in the drop down list.  No problem, not complaining.  It just used to be so much easier.
