None of them are "Best"  A, B, C, and all 1...e5 defenses are better than options like D, E, and F.

Najdorf - The "Rolls Royce":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicilian_Defence,_Najdorf_Variation

The Najdorf Variation of the Sicilian Defence is one of the most popular, reputable and deeply studied of all chess openings. Modern Chess Openings calls it the "Cadillac" or "Rolls Royce" of chess openings.

Stop worrying about the best opening. Find a good one and go with it. Against 1.e4 I play the French and if they play anything other than 2.d4, I will usually transpose into a Taimanov Sicilian. French players should have both in their repertoire just in case you get those ******* that play the Exchange

Against e4, there are plenty of choices. At the top level, e5 is generally considered solid, while c5 is more aggressive. The Caro Kann (c6) is also pretty trendy these days, and is also pretty solid. There is no single "best defense against e4", otherwise everyone would play it all the time.

When @Hikaru tries to play for a win in Titled Tuesdays or when he streams online,

he goes for F) Pirc ( actually modern with ..d6 and ..g6) and also B) Caro-Kann.

by Modern I mean 1 e4 g6 2d4 Bg7 3Nc3 d6 4 Be3 a6 , Which is close to Pirc F) 1e4 d6 2 d4 Nf6 3Nc3 g6 but not the same.

Here's a short video to illustrate his killer system if you're interested. I am also playing it when I absolutely need a win.

When he plays very strong players like Magnus or Wesley So, he will play 1..e5 with Berlin or Italian.

Here's an example

Yes after a lot of thinking I have decided to learn pirc and petroff against e4 and grunfeld against d4

Scandinavian less thoery easy to learn tends to yield slow strategical battles .

The one you are most comfortable with.

A Cadillac or Rolls Royce is a bad choice for anyone who does not really know how to drive.

You'd better start with a bicycle, methinks.

All of them are fine. The Alekhine's is a bit dubious though compared to the others listed but that's just my opinion.

You're studying those kind of bishop fiancetto structures. You know what you want. There's no 'best.'

I like the Alekhine because it leads to fun games and I don’t have to learn a ton of theory. If I didn’t play that I’d play the Scandi. And often my Alekhine games turn into the Scandi Variation anyways.
