Moving e4 or d4 is the best opening attack for White, and playing e5 or d5 is the best opening defense for Black(Note that a response to White's attack by Black is called as a defense such as French Defense, Sicilian Defense etc). In my opinion the best way for you is to play e4 if you are White and e5 if you are Black. It does not matter which move you play but the main goal is to protect the King, develop your pieces and attack the opponent as well as possible.
