Bird flying high?

Hey y'all!

Queens Gambit, Nimzo - Indian, Ruy Lopez, French: good openings, all played by the greatest of chess...

But what about the Bird? Only Naka sometimes throws 1.f4 in the battlefield... Most (worldclass) players stay away from the Bird. And I've been wondering WHY?? It's suprising, in a way forcing and sometimes very aggressive opening (with a lot of tactics!).

Objectively, 1.f4 isn't Whites best move to open the game. But most black players (up to 2100+, in my experience at the club) don't know how to meet the Bird after 6 or so moves and aren't familiar with the resulting middlegame positions... So that''s why I play the Bird almost exclusively in both rapd and classical.

Why do (or don't) you play the Bird?

That’s interesting
But I always play 1c4. Luckily there is a book in my home which tells us something about the bird opening.
