Bird's Opening

The Bird's Opening(f4) will likely result in a win for Black no matter what White plays from there unless Black makes a serious blunder. Is there any variation of The Bird's that likely results in a win for White? It seems like Black's defense against The Bird's is totally natural and there isn't much White can do?

LMAO tongue.pnggrin.png The statistics W/D/L = 33/25/42 % out of 6453 master games show that the Bird's opening is quite sound though black wins more often, that's true.

I still say it's for the birds.

Bird's Opening is a perfectly valid opening, somewhat rare, but occasionally played even by the top players. I'm not sure why you assume that it gives advantage to black.

The statistics are biased towards weaker players losing as white as they look for an upset.  Bird's Opening is very sound but can create some weaknesses on the g1 diagonal given the early push of the f pawn.  The Stonewall will be the most sound but both the Classical and Leningrad are sound as well and create some dangerous chances for white.

****What people don't understand is that white's side does not grant a lasting edge for awhile and only promises equality - if you over-push as white you will lose in the opening****

With good play white should be fine.

My rating filter is set to -50/+250 so it's safe to say that large majority of my games was against higher rated oppos.

The bird ≥ The word (not that I play it)

Carlson won with it against Kramnik.
