Hi,

Looking for anyone who knows of books that tell of more SPECIFIC reasons for certan chess openings...whenever I search for these, I usually get the same basics...safe king, control the center, etc....but, it seems like there must be more "specific" ideas as to what openings are good for what (ex., _______ opening is better for queenside attack, _________opening aims to control the        d file, ________opening aims for a kingside attack/control of the f5 square etc.)....does anything out there like this exist???

Thanks for your help!

Are you looking for one book that gives you the ideas for lots of different openings, or do you have a specific opening that you want to know more about?

Reuben Fine's "The Ideas Behind the Chess Openings" is old, but good for giving the the big picture ideas behind lots of major openings.

MANY specific openings have books about them that show how to play that opening, including some openings that probably don't deserve their own books.

Thanks for the idea....searching that book and reading the reviews has also lead me to some other good choices.....Logical Chess Move by Move by Chernev seems very much to be what I'm looking for...they have a sample of how the moves are described on this website:

Thanks again, your post was very helpful...I will check out the other book too
