C37: King's Gambit: Accepted, Rosentreter-Testa Gambit

The opening doesn't really pan out for you in that game, difficult if the Queens come off. I played through your game, slightly aghast that you seemed so chipper with little compensation for the piece. Your opponent is really an 1800? he lost moves on trivialities, all over the shop. Maybe that's what being out the comfort zone does to some players. I kept playing moves thinking that you couldn't win, then your King waded into the attack and the game balance started to shift. Well done that you managed to keep your cool for so long and then latch onto your chance. I recommend that you never play this opening against that guy again, for rating points. He'll tear you a new one, next time. Laughing

yeah i agree.  the idea for black is to get as much off the board as possible i think.  yeah he's an 1800.  he didn't play well--at the end especially.

i think i'll take your advice and pass on this opening next time!  haha  truth is, i pulled it out on a whim.  t'was fun though.

I think I will try this line next time I go for the King's Gambit.  Here are two I recently played (one white, one black) that followed closer to the main line.  Both games my opponents were a bit lower rated than I, and when I had the white pieces, black made some serious blunders, just hanging pieces.

here's my other game from last night.  not the exact line as but similar.  this is 'gainst a player similar to my rating but not my ability.  i think he's around 1100.  i'm also 100 but i ave several wins that are yet to be reported and assumedly i'll be somehwere near 1300 when the games are updated.  anyway--

You missed a tactical shot:

yeah hey...  nice one.  i looked at that (honestly) but i couldn't see it clearly.  and even if he chooses not to take the bishop, i still have options once he moves out of check.  seems so obvious now.

As for that tactical shot, I was looking at 14. Nh3+ winning the queen but your Nxg6+ is stronger because the queen falls anyway when the bishop takes it. Nice wins ilikeflags! Two King's Gambits...two scalps.

I've joined but you won't get a hundred players, best to make it something more modest like two sections of five.
