That depends, if you like open positions, full of tactics, e4 it is.
If you're a more positional player, d4, c4 or Nf3 work.

d4 has been proven many times to be a statistically more successful opening than e4 because of the effectiveness of Sicilian Defense versus 1.e4.
Openings suits ones style. I like e4. So, what?

I personally prefer 1.d4, but - of course - 1.c4 is well playable too, it is just a different repertoire, For example 1.c4 e5 and 1.c4 c5 (symmetrical English).
Some symmetrical English positions may result in a position which can also be the result of a Caro-Kann, see for example the game Aronian - Stevic.
Which out of this two is 💪 if we are talking about experts+ level of play
