Thank you for the tips!
The Caro-Kann is a good, solid opening. It's less tactical than, say, the Sicilian but any opening can turn tactical. When black wins it's often in the endgame so if you want to play the Caro-Kann I'd suggest studying the endgame.
Some basic endgame books are Chess Endings Essential Knowledge by Yuri Averbakh, A Guide to Chess Endings by Euwe and Hooper and Pandolfini's Endgame Course. These will provide some basics. The Euwe and Hooper book is available in English descriptive notation but it's not hard to learn. I don't think much of Pandolfini as a chess writer but I make an exception for his Endgame Course.
As far as studying the opening at your level I would just learn basics and concentrate on tactics, the middle game and basic endings.
Consulting a general opening book should be good enough to learn the basics of the Caro-Kann for you. Modern Chess Openings, edited by GM DeFirmian, is a pretty good one. You could look up some of your other openings there too.
