To be honest, almost everyone should know not to take the bishop even when they don't look at the opening. The Lasker trap is easy to spot.
Chess.com needs to not show this.
If you play on your phone then it doesnt show you the names of openings, i just started playing on the computer an noticed this. But it also doesnt say "lasker trap, play nf3 instead on e3" lol they still need to know what to do.

true, but there are still some people who would fall for it otherwise.
same thing with "poisoned pawn variation". the gm's who came up with those variations couldn't have thought of a better name?

What about “free pawn” variation lol?
It is stupid. OTB this wouldn’t happen.
are you saying this forum is stupid or the feature is stupid?

Feature. How would that refer to the forum?
Anyone with half a brain should know 4.e3?? Is a blunder.
While the main line may be 4.Nf3 and to fianchetto the Bishop, the strongest move is the little-kniwn 4.a3 followed only then by 5.e3! With a clear advantage for White!
You want to undermine the e4 pawn that is restricting your development. But in this case is a blunder.
What's the big advantage of playing 4.a3 5.e3 (us maybe less than half brains wanna know)?
5 moves and not a piece developed.
I was looking at Vanished Center pawn structures just before reading this and now I need to add another to my list.
How often does a 2000+ rated player see this when not playing blitz/bullet?
Edit: It was on the list, but not as an established (often played) line. Is there one?
This would be a great suggestion. I am a relatively committed Albin player, and I have pulled this trap once in a USCF rated OTB tournament in addition to countless times online. Although yes, good players in general know that e3 is bad (the higher you go the more improbable it becomes) not all white players understand this opening. For these opponents, it gives white an unfair advantage. In fact, I might write to chess.com about this, since it definitely can affect my games.

It does seem unfair to offer in-game information to some players but not others... I play with both app and computer, but I understand that many people only use the app.

i like seeing what lines are being played, helps for research and improvement, they can just remove words like "trap" then if they want.
In the part of the game screen under what moves have been played it tells you what opening was played. I generally like that, but in this position it tells my opponents that it is the lasker trap, so they seem to know not to take the bishop.
