Post your list of your hated openings here. Those moves that make you "really?" When you see it played. Ones that you find that you can't beat easily. Post them here!

For me it's totally the Sicilian defense. Kan variation to be exact. Either that or 1.c4 for me when I'm black

kings indian defence by black can be annoying especially with the fiancettoed bishop because there is no direct attack to the kingside. you have to win material on the queenside first then attack the king. this kind of gameplay makes it much easier to make a mistake that your opponent can exploit.

2.

For some reason I struggle against this.

1. c4. Usually it seems easy enough to get equality out of the opening, but then weird stuff happens. I often feel cramped as black, even when objectively if I look at the position white is just as cramped as me. I find myself often going for dubious activity that white manages to 'refute' by doing absolutely nothing. Its frusterating.

I beat a 2000+ rated player with this line:

The English is only good for equality. This line pretty much forces white into a boring game.

Scholar's Mate is a pain in the "assets". It's easy to parry, but it's kind of insulting.

Argonaut13

How is it insulting. I love it when they play it, good game for me. I wouldn't say it's insulting, maybe it's just because the player is a novice is why they play it. Probably just started learning opening lines and such.

FES314

Any opening Computer4 Impossible plays, I hate that opening.

Scholar's mate may be a bit insulting, but the joke's on them. They can go ahead and waste their time moving the queen 4 times in the opening, while I develop and destroy them!

Learning to beat that and the other similar wayward queen openings was the first specific counter I learned. I always try to encourage my opponents to bring their queen out early, if I can!

Ben-Lui

The Scandinavian as White. It seems such a primitive defence (?!) for Black that I never had an urge to study it; I always have the feeling that it should be easy to herd the black Q around and develop quickly, or force an early Q exchange with the same result, but it still goes wrong for me more than it should. Laziness doesn't pay! :)

The French is another stupid one I hate. So many lines to study and an annoying opening all together

JGambit

+1 for the french,

Most gambits are annoying but not the kings gambit because everyone plays it and I can rattle of the first 15 moves as black keeping the pawn and gaining the attack more often then not.

Darkness_Prevails

Kings Indian, sicilian taimanov(with black ofcourse),volga gambit and any type early queen swap line.

JonHutch
