chess repertoire

Hello guys, I'm an Intermediate player and I have decided to start taking my openings seriously. My goal is to build up a repertoire so that I will be prepared for pretty much anything my opponent opens with. I posted my current progress below and would appreciate everyone's feedback.

Openings with white:

E4, E5-> ruy lopez

E4, C5-> alapin sicilian

Weird moves-> 10 golden moves setup

Openings with black:

E4-> Caro-Kann

Anything else-> Queen's gambit declined setup

Weird moves-> 10 golden moves setup

I think they are solid enough. I used to be like you until I got the urge to win with every chess gambit. However, if you ever get in a slump, try a new opening but have a solid goto to fall back on

Whatever you "10 Golden Moves Setup" is, I guarantee you there are cases when it is no good.

Also, are you calling everything other than e5 or c5 against 1.e4 "weird"? What about the French? Caro-Kann? Etc?

ThrillerFan

If I understand your 10 golden moves setup, which for Black would be e5, d5, Nf6, Nc6, Bf5, Bc5, Qd7, O-O, Rfe8, and Rad8, I can tell you that you are busted!

I play both 1.b4 and 1.c4.

Against 1.b4, the Knight rarely goes to c6 unless you take the b-pawn first, and ...Bc5 is a blunder - ...bxc5!

so, what line are you going to play in the ruy to prevent the marshall gambit? the mackenzie?

"I have decided to start taking my openings seriously"
++ Better take tactics and endgames seriously.

"build up a repertoire so that I will be prepared for pretty much anything"
++ You can only postpone the moment you have to think of your own.

"E4, E5-> ruy lopez

E4, C5-> alapin sicilian

Weird moves-> 10 golden moves setup"
++ That is fine.

"E4-> Caro-Kann

Anything else-> Queen's gambit declined setup

Weird moves-> 10 golden moves setup"
++ That is fine.

There is no need to prevent the Marshall Attack 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 a6 4 Ba4 Nf6 5 O-O Be7 6 Re1 b5 7 Bb3 O-O 8 c3 d5, but there are many ways to prevent it.
8 d3, 8 h3, 8 a4, 6 Bxc6, 5 d3, 4 Bxc6
