Colle-Zukertort - unbeatable

Someone at the club used to play this a couple years ago, if it's any help, I started playing a Dutch Stonewall setup against it and he was completely without central pawn breaks.

In general, it looks like a slow, passive system where White is, against a decent opponent, likely to end up with nothing more than a draw. This may explain its lack of presence at high levels of competition.

(Having said that, I know someone will chime in with the usual retort: "but Yusupov played it once in 2007..." yadda yadda yadda.... This happens in every pet-system opening thread) Wink

but Yusupov played it once in 2007...

...and lost, BTW. Laughing

this is how I usually play against such lines. They usually hate it when black dont play d7d5. This is much more fluid imho.

Tell me---What is your criterion for judging me a complete idiot?

What have I said that would make ME an idiot?

This will be the last time that I respond to you so make sure that you show your Cyber Bravdo

it's a solid system, but it incurs a lot of draws when facing strong players

I believe the phonix variation was created for that reason.

Robman6, seems like you started the agression, the question is why?

pfren

The Colle- Zukertort and the regular Colle are fun against ...d5 and ...e6 systems, but they have no particular punch if Black delays moving his d-pawn. The best white can expect is transposing to a regular Rubinstein Queen's Indian, if he inserts a rather quick c2-c4. Especially the regular Colle is completely toothless if Black delays ...d5.

And of course both are absolutely harmless against King's Indian/ Grunfeld Black fomartions.

Why don't you check out the Calle-Zukertort,  the knight is never on E2.  My original query was just for simple confirmation that it was a typo, which it was.  If your Borg girls comment was meant to insult me it didn't, I thought it was just a joke (though obscure one).

As far as the OP writer,  he left for good after being insulted and called a lazy newbie on the very second post, when evidently the guy is close to 2000.

This forum is ruled by hostile antisocial loners.

For those who play King's Indian Defence: While you can easily stand your own against the Colle on general ideas and principles, Yelena Dembo in "Fighting the anti-King's-Indans" recommends an early 4... c5.

It was a joke, but apparently nobody but you got it. Definitely not meant as an insult to anybody.

I didn't pick up that you were asking about the move order, I thought you were asking what the numbers and letters meant.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did notice the e2/d2 swap in the move list, but it didn't traumatize me to see a mistake. Because it's impossible for a Knight to move to e2, and the notation is Nbe2 (indicating that it's possible for both Knights to move to the proper square), it was reasonable to assume that the OP meant Nbd2 instead of Nbe2.

Nobody died, and it's still a cool opening.
