is 0-0 appropriate here? and then, after ...dxc3, what? Qb3? i love the evans, but im not sure im playing it right

jerry2468

erm b4 isn't a !! and d4 is played after Bd2 or O-O

Fromper

Yes, O-O, and if black takes on c3, then Qb3, Ba3, e5, etc.

PrawnEatsPrawn

You are playing it perfectly, 6 d4 followed by 7 0-0 is mainline.

jerry2468

No, I mean O-O before d4

siamesenightmare93

haha i included the !! as a bit of a joke. i understand that that in itself is most definitely not a brilliant move. im kidding around. but thank you all for the help. the concept of the queenside fianchetto before d4 or 0-0 is something ive never seen before, but it seems worth a couple of tries

Yes, another way of playing... the Slow Variation. Not seen so much anymore due to the Lasker Defence. Here's the figures:

Fromper

I'm pretty sure d4 before O-O (as in the initial post) is considered the main line.

Agreed, see post #4.

Tricklev

0 - 0 used to be the mainline before d4 took over, look over for example Chigorins Evan's Gambits and you will find alot of castling before d4.

I don't think I would give b4!! it's just a book move. Just b4
