haha i included the !! as a bit of a joke. i understand that that in itself is most definitely not a brilliant move. im kidding around. but thank you all for the help. the concept of the queenside fianchetto before d4 or 0-0 is something ive never seen before, but it seems worth a couple of tries

Yes, another way of playing... the Slow Variation. Not seen so much anymore due to the Lasker Defence. Here's the figures:

I'm pretty sure d4 before O-O (as in the initial post) is considered the main line.
