The Ruy is one of the richest openings, and it does have a lot of cool tactics/tricks that players from both sides have to worry about.
Tarrash's trap and Noah's Arc spring to mind.
It's not simply a way to try to trick your opponent; rather they allow you to make certain positional moves that seem impossible.
Here's two from a game on chess.com database. On a side note, it should also teach you to not trust database results too much if they include even games with 600 !!! points of difference.
