Daeth Trap

What happened to Daeth's opening thread?  Is the IM pfren vs. Daeth game still going to happen?

Rick56

I know right, I was bummed... I don't even think Daeth is a member anymore, he drew a game against a master, last I checked, and was in process in a second game, I'll miss that dirty ol' thread..

ChessforCharityonYouTube

lets make it happen!

probably banned for cheating.

Rick56

You think? Being so adamant about not doing it and threatening those who questioned? I thought only Lance was capable of such a feat...

ClavierCavalier

Could have been banned for all of the insults, as well.  What reason wasn't there?

ClavierCavalier

Wow, the original post was months ago when Daeth's thread suddenly went dormant before suddenly coming back.

Beware all young chess players....the Daeth trap isn't an awesome new piece of chess theory...it is what happens when you try to do what the OP did with his chessic opportunity here....don't follow in his footsteps...

nameno1had

Daeth was banned for cheating, from what I have heard...I didn't see his name on the list, but haven't looked for it either...

WhitePointer

Actually it wasn't IM pfren, it was ImperfectLuck. Don't provoke him unless you want to be called "spitful" or any other number of stunning insults

The only credit I am willing to give him is that he picked such a crappy opening that there probably aren't many lines to choose from other than the best one. So he was probably able to memorize then without a great deal of difficulty. This could also explain why he'd get so weak in the end game. That only goes to show how skilled he really is and how much mastering one opening can bolster your apparent skill, but it won't necessarily do much for your true skill.

In my opinion, he probably did use his engine, but I can't prove that...I haven't looked at his games. In light of the recent Ivanov scandle, I had to for the 1st time seriously consider the draw backs of a player who was intelligent enough to pick an opening with the fewest possible line that are worth a darn at a high level of play and then memorize them all. He could certainly look like a cheat to the data collected at an online chess site and might even appear to be questionable in behavior at an otb function. Likewise, studying all of this has made me very happy that almost always, chess engines play differently than people. Imagine the consequences of them being made to perfectly immulate super GM play.

I know it wasn't IM pfren, although he was just about to accept a challenge for money, at least I remember him accepting it. Well if he cheated then good thing he's gone. It was still a fun thread to read, I guess I'll have to find another thread.

ClavierCavalier

The orignal challenge 9 months ago (or whatever) was for IM pfren.

nameno1had

You are correct...Pfren told him his opening was crap and he would play him for a $30 fee

Scottrf

He didn't get banned for cheating, there's no symbol next to his name.

80 percent of folks are Myers-Briggs "Sensor" Types.

So they won't believe @Death was an engine user, until it's posted.

Intuitive Types (the oppressed 20% minority) will freely form their own conjectures.  And go merrily on their way.

That's odd then. Because if someone's account is closed and they're not cheaters, the threads all linger. hmmmmmmmmmUndecided

goldendog

If the account is closed due to some bad behavior, the content disappears.

DrSpudnik

Well, there was plenty of that!
