Danish Gambit Variant
@TheGreatOogieBoogie, I play 5.Qxd4 whenever i get that position from your diagram. I've tried a few different things, but I've had best success with that, developing the queen early but also making Black move their kight again. I believe that's what an engine says to do too but I can't remember. In any case I believe GM Nigel Davies was too pessimistic about this way of declining in his Foxy Openings VHS tape covering it at the very end and saying "last and certainly least" of it, in my opinion as someone who actually plays the Danish gambit 3...Nf6 is a little better than what he said.

After carefully analyzing your line, Beren, I must conclude that 1...e5 is an overzealous attempt to compete with White for space control. Upon sober reflection, it appears moving the e-pawn only one square encourages optimism regarding Black's chances.
