Why would anyone ever play into either variation as black?  They are both terrible.  If you're going to play 2 Knights against the Italian play the correct line against Ng5'ers...

Of course I agree with Fixing_A_Hole and the rest of the world about Black's practical chances in these variations. That said, you did ask, and I do think the Heisman analysis is probably good and with perfect play Black is not lost in either line if you must play them... it's just very difficult. I would recommend avoiding them with Na5 or maybe Nd4 or b5 if you want something "suprising."

Thanks for your replies.

Would you recomend 5. b5 rather than Na5. Is that still theoretically correct?

I agree with fiveofswords, but also consider after 5. ...Na5 6. Bb5+ Bb7 as an interesting and understudied line.

Here are two unique ways of playing two knights as black; I also consider them best. Enjoy!
