I play bullet every now and then and come across the fried liver a lot. I know about the defense where you sacrifice your bishop, but does anyone have any other defenses?

You could always avoid it by simply playing Bc5 instead of Nf6, but if you insist on the Two Knights Defense, 5… Na5 (the Polerio Defense) or Nd4 (the Fritz Variation) work decently. Nd4 only works if your opponent is somewhat unfamiliar with it, and Na5 (the main line) gambits a pawn, albeit for a strong attack.

Fun fact: it's not the Fried liver.

Not a very bright choice.

It may work once, or twice, but...

Taking with the bishop and check is the only move that can save white, and most beginner to intermediate players don't see that, and I assumed that the person asking the question was beginner to intermediate if they said that they see the fried liver a lot. If the person asking is at a more advanced level, then yes this is not great and the traxler defense would be a lot better.

@theserpentile53

then you just play Qe4+ and win the rook anyways
