Compadre I would say in that London opening you showed just now -
white Definitely has plenty of time for h3!
Especially since black 'invested' in g6.
Does white 'always' get time for h3 in the London?
I don't claim to know.
But I'd think he always has that or other resources against Nh5.
Otherwise the London would be Out of Business.
Maybe there's a London line where white lets black play NxB and white is happy to take back with his h-pawn. Like what can happen from the main line of the Caro.
If white's Always going to have time and good opportunity for h3 - then that's something that should be conveyed to beginners/novices.
It would be Money in the Bank.
Like informing them early on that Closed Sicilian is much easier to play than Open Sicilian. Especially if they've decided to commit to e4.
H3 in the London.
Black makes classic mistakes against the London but what are white's classic mistakes in that opening? I don't know.
Another good player - in one of these forums stated he didn't like Nf3 early in the London because of nastiness by black with Qb6 hitting the b2 pawn which white has 'undefended' by doing his bishop sortie.

Yep, The London System in several different variations has ways to save the Bishop right on time and/or make it unappealing for Black to take it.

This is what makes the London System such a Solid opening.

Also, The person who was talking about not liking Nf3 early in the London was probably me.

I like playing the 2. Bf4 line of London.

Well, I use too, I haven’t played the London in a while.

Maybe, I should give it a shot again.

Right. I checked back. It was you. You didn't like the Qb6 nastiness by black hitting b2.
A similiar thing can happen in the Queen's gambit if black gets too ambitious with Bf5 too early.
Its punished by a timely Qb3 with a double attack on d5 and b7.
Refuting power against the premature Bf5.
But its harder for black to do that to white though.

I am a OTB tournament player rated 927 USCF and I want to know a solid opening to switch to.

Everybody decides for himself/herself how to rank white's move 1 options.
According to Wikipedia - the most popular chess moves for white's first move are ranked as follows:
1) e4
1) d4
1) Nf3
1) c4
1) g3
But 'most popular' doesn't have to mean 'solid'.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Black can't stop white from playing certain 'System' openings.
1) d4 . Does black have a good way to stop white playing Bf4 from there?
Apparently not.
Hence the term 'London System'.
1) g3. Obviously black can't then stop white playing Bg2.
But - many believe that if white is going to play that - he should play 1) Nf3 first.
Because 1) g3 ignores the center too much. Hence its not ranked in the top four.
I agree. Except that 1) Nf3 is good anyway. With or without g3 intended soon.

Knight f3 is the best move one and the most flexible usually the most solid is d4 and the most tactical is e4 just depends what style you want

BigChessplayer665

True depends though that's usually because they let you

Yes.
And heavily related to that - openings are also defined by what black does not just by what white does.
Its an obvious point but often ignored or forgotten or 'blurred over'.

I generally play my best with d4 but I imagine it depends on skill level

Personally, I like e3 (White) because of:

1. early kingside castling

2. early checkmate (your bishop can protect the queen while she captures the f7 pawn

(it's checkmate because only the king can stop the check, but since kings can't capture

protected pieces, it's checkmate.)

I also like the vice versa for Black (e6).

Are you talking about 1) e3 for white?
E3 on white's first move ...
I like e3 too but not on move 1 for white.
In good openings both sides do something right away about the pawn center situation.
e3 is too passive for move 1 - so is d3 and c3 and Nc3 ...
all too passive for white on first move.
g3 and b3 are passive too. But g3 is ranked #5 in popularity for white's first move.
Bishops at g2 or g7 can become Beasts.
But - even there - 1) g3 has four moves ranked far above it in popularity for first move. e4 and d4 and Nf3 and c4.
And with black 1) - g6 also has those four moves ranked above it ... and other moves too - although black's first is affected by what white does before that so its harder to rank the moves above g6 in order.

write me, if you are interested about any opening knowledge, from some course. I study openings a lot, so maybe I can help you...

Play the Colle they said.... it's a good opening! OK... I said, "Wow look at the those check mates!" I'm down...

What they really meant...

Play the Anti-Colle! happy.png

C4! The English Opening is solid and very flexible.

According to me the London is arguably the most preferred opening for white but it lacks proper game plan of what to do after the opening so as a beginner myself THE QUEENS GAMBIT is the best opening for white bcs everything is straight forward so go try! And let me know how it suits u

The London doesn't lack 'proper game plan'.
Every player who does not have insight into tactics and basic checkmate positions and basic endings is going to be fumbling around 'after the opening'.
Whatever opening it is. And 'during' the opening too.
Its going to be like playing baseball or basketball or cricket or tennis or soccer - with one arm strapped to your body so it can't move!

Yes, the London. I just played this 5 minute game .....

Nice.

I play quite a similar line as Black, except that instead of Bg4 I just bury the Bishop on c8 by playing Nbd7 immediately. Just a personal preference... I don't like putting pieces out where they are likely to get exchanged, unless I'm PLAYING to exchange them. Instead, I develop the Bishop with a later b7-b5 and a7-a6. This allows me to hold several threats over White's head, including c6-c7.

The position after move 12 looks like a Ruy Lopez Breyer variation!

Using bird opening these days

'should'? The reality is that it depends on what each of the two players are doing.
With or without the 'should'.

Ridiculous arguments are fun though

Why is there always some person arguing even over words, should or not do what you do only valid point if you were to troll is the typo which is the , after opponent does.... you say the same just to troll?

'should' was your word.
And the fact that both players determine the nature of each opening and saying so is not 'trolling' and accusations of same are not arguments - but such accusations are in fact the 'trolling'.
cick - you got disagreed with and it was too much for you.
But - much worse happens in these forums.

Look, much worse happen in life even. All that serenade of panoply of : "I'm right" is trolling.

And for the rest, I invite you try anything as it seem you target me, so you know me.

Grtz

I don't target you. I disagreed with you.
I think you can tell the difference.
Handle it.
Both players determine what happens in the opening ...
Stands. Isn't trolling.
Neither the fact nor the words. If you personalize it - that's on you.
